MK International was a Project Management
company, which managed the design, construction & commissioning
of Telecommunications Facilities. Parent
company, WorldCom, closed MKI down in mid-2002.
Installed WorldCom equipment in third party data centres throughout the
Asia Pacific Region. Projects
included a US$3M IP Hub in Seoul, US$1M Frame Relay Nodes in Mumbai
& Shanghai and a DWDM training room in Hong Kong.
Overseas projects all completed on time with minimal support from home.
Project Managed the fast-track construction of a 550m2 Internet
Data Centre in Hong Kong. Performed
all contract administration, including budgeting, sub-contract &
lease negotiation, client & landlord liaison and construction management.
The facility was complete and handed over to UUNET within seven
weeks of contractor mobilisation - one week ahead of schedule.
Provided support to MKI construction projects in the Asia Pacific Region.
Performing initial site selection, scheme design, technical support
through design & construction phases, then close out auditing &
handover of completed facilities.
eGlobal was an eCommerce company, founded
in September 1999, from the re-organisation of Fibrestream Ltd. and
a capital injection from two UK based entrepreneurs.
Set-up and controlled eGlobal's Hong Kong operations. Supervised the development and preparation
of eGlobal's worldwide Business Plan and integrated Fibrestream’s assets
& resources into a new structure of holding and operating companies.
Managed 'Year 2000 compliance' projects for Fibrestream. Duties included managing a team of engineers,
performing audits & risk assessments and developing business continuity
plans. Y2k Reports were profitably
completed, with no unpredicted problems occurring at the New Millennium.
Parsons Brinckerhoff was the design
consultant for major airfield-wide design contracts at the Hong Kong
Airport. These contracts included,
Permanent Utilities, Aviation Fuel, Communications and Security systems.
Seconded into the Airport Authority’s Project Management team, to control
the installation, commissioning & plant integration of a US$12M
Distributed Control System. Duties
included daily supervision, liaison with airport operations & other
contractors, approvals and variation assessment. Successfully progressed construction activities despite a major
contractual dispute between client and contractor.
Represented Parsons Brinckerhoff on site, during the final design &
construction stages of the airport design contracts. Duties included liaison between design office and site-based client,
solution of contractors’ site queries and construction observation.
Designed process & control systems for the US$120M Aviation Fuel Storage
& Distribution Systems. As
Lead Engineer, supervised specialist sub-consultants, performing design,
planning and specification. Promoted
to Deputy Project Manager during construction phase; responsible for
interface with client, control of resources, design change approval
and preparation of variation claims.
Supervised construction, installation and commissioning of Shell’s US$4M
Gas Oil Modification Project. As
multi-disciplined Resident Engineer, responsible for daily progress
& co-ordination of all contractors‘ works.
Major target dates met despite client's advancement of project schedule and ongoing operations.
Leung's Engineering was a small company
specialising in materials handling for the power generation and process
industries. Leung's provided
services ranging from equipment sales to turnkey projects.
Co-ordinated all liaison between Japanese and Chinese companies for a
US$1M Pipe Conveyor fabrication & installation project, at a major
Hong Kong power station. Responsibilities
included contractual communication, workshop & site supervision
and technical support.
Sullom Voe is the largest crude oil
terminal in Europe. On site
facilities include pipeline receipt, separation, dehydration, fractionation,
bulk storage (crude & refrigerated LNG), marine loading and power
generation.
Designed and implemented on-line system modifications & field instrument
tie-ins, as part of a US$20M re-instrumentation project. Work involved centralising control of all facilities,
using a Honeywell TDC3000 system. Supervised
contract wiremen and technicians, finishing all work on schedule and
within budget; despite the short time scale and continuing plant operation.
Managed Instrument Decommissioning work at Sullom Voe Terminal. Developed a philosophy, prepared the scope
of work and arranged contracts for supervisors and technicians. Provided day-to-day control and technical support,
completing the job without shutdown of adjacent live plant.
Completed BP’s graduate training scheme, accredited by the Institution
of Electrical Engineers. Spent
2 years in a variety of onshore & offshore roles, gaining experience
in design, operations, maintenance and construction. The basic practical
skills learned, whilst working alongside plant operators &technicians,
provided an invaluable foundation for my subsequent career.
