- Hazardous
area classification and the selection of electrical equipment
for installation and use in arduous environments;
- Specification,
requisitioning and technical bid analysis for major electrical
equipment and bulk material selection;
- Vendor
coordination, drawing approval, expediting, inspection and FAT

- Construction
management and supervision, including field surveying of existing
installations and preparation of as-built drawings;
- Preparation
of cost estimates and design and engineering man-hour proposals,
etc.
I
am familiar with ETAP, VANTAGE (database), Cymap, Hevacomp, Calculux,
Cophos and Amtech (HL/LV) electrical system design software. I
am also fully conversant with various spreadsheet, word processing,
e-mail and other presentation software used to produce calculations,
reports, specifications, etc.
2004 - Present
Air Products
Senior
Electrical Engineer
Mopani
Copper, Zambia. Electrical Engineer responsible for the production
of design drawings, specifications & data sheets for the detailed
design of a new oxygen separation plant. Responsible for the production
of project deliverables including specifications, data sheets,
SLD's and motor control schematics, MV cable sizing and E&I Interface
schedules, etc. on behalf of the Lead Electrical Engineer.
2002 - 2004
Fluor
Senior
Electrical Engineer
Lead Electrical
Engineer for the production of a 10-15% cost estimate for the
entire electrical installation related to the design of a new
gas plant; to be constructed within the existing MAA refinery
complex. Responsible for the production of all project deliverables
(project specifications, data sheets, SLD's, layout drawings,
hazardous area classification, etc.) and a software generated
system analysis model (evaluating the effect of imposing the proposed
load onto the existing 132kV/11kV/3.3kV/440V network). Also ensured
that any harmonic distortion produced in the new plant will be
within accepted limits (at the point of common coupling (PCC))
and that the design was adequately co-ordinated with SHELL DEP
requirements.
Lead Electrical Engineer for the production
of 30% cost estimate for Statoil. Responsible for the production
of all load-flow, motor starting & short-circuit calculations
necessary to evaluate the impact of imposing a substantial new
/ enlarged load onto the existing 132kV/22kV/11kV/6.6kV/690V system.
Also required to evaluate the need for an increase in the rating
of certain existing transformers, circuit breakers, fuses, cables,
etc. and extending the existing plant space to accommodate the
proposed new equipment.

2001 - 2002
AMEC (Downstream Oil & Gas)
Senior
Electrical Engineer
Reporting
to the Lead Electrical Engineer I have been closely involved with
the development of all electrical bid packages and the production
of SLD's and layout drawings for an onshore gas
terminal, located in Ireland. My role has been to assist with
the design of a 3.3kV stand-alone generation system and to ensure
its effective integration with the 400V MCC's and various rating
process drives. I have also taken full responsibility for the
design of an effective earthing / bonding / lightning protection
network, major cable sizing calculations, system demand calculations
and compiled the MCC drive schedule. My duties have entailed the
writing of specification and all other documentation necessary
for the purchase of main & emergency generators, HV / LV switchgear,
UPS, lighting, cabling, cathodic protection, trace heating and
the bulk material requisition. Finally, I have written Technical
Bid Evaluation reports for certain packages and checked documents
(& drawings) produced by others - all in accordance with QA
requirements & established company procedures.
2000 - 2001
Bellwater
Senior
Electrical Engineer
Reporting
to the technical director I was responsible for a team of four,
employed to design power supply infrastructure for Telecom & Internet
hosting sites. My duties included the estimation of system load
and the design of a cost effective supply configuration to meet
the client demand for an extremely high power supply integrity.
I was also responsible for ensuring that harmonic current values
were attenuated sufficiently to ensure voltage distortion (and
excessive neutral current) were kept within acceptable limits,
and to ensure that all lighting, emergency lighting, small power,
fire alarm and other equipment was adequately designed and co-ordinated.
1998-2000
Bechtel – London, Luton Airport
Senior
AGL Engineer
Reporting to
the project manager for the design evaluation & contract management
of a £2.25M AGL contract, required to replace the existing taxiway
lighting & associated power supply system - this contract forming
part of an overall £80M contract intended to increase annual passenger
movement from 3M to 5.5M. I had responsibility for the day-to-day
liaison between Bechtel, ATC, the installing sub-contractor & Luton
Airport Ltd. and for the preparation of a Safety Case, ensuring
compliance with CAP168 (throughout the installation, testing & commissioning
phases of the project).
1995–1998
Airport Authority – Hong Kong Airport
Electrical
Design Engineer I
Acting as a Senior
Design Engineer, I was responsible for the design and project management
of the temporary power network at Hong Kong's replacement airport.
I was also responsible for AGL power supply issues and the design
of power supplies to temporary office and catering accommodation
(for a construction workforce of more than 20,000!). Prior to airport
opening I supervised a team of specialists introduced to investigate
the source of reported excessive harmonic current and to help resolve
many outstanding earthing and protection co-ordination issues.
1985–1995
Freelance
Senior
Design Engineer
